A LETTER TO ALL FRIENDS OF WAKELON, from Friends of Wakelon, Inc.

Dear Friends of Wakelon,

We have made great strides since the citizens of Zebulon approved a bond referendum on March 6, 2007. The old Wakelon School campus will now become Zebulon Municipal Complex, which will include the town hall, police and recreation departments, and the administrative offices for the Town of Zebulon.

Friends of Wakelon, Inc. is a corporation which now has IRS 501 (c)(3) approval.  We believe that this long awaited non-profit status will help all friends of Wakelon personalize the landscape of the Zebulon Municipal Complex. Bricks and pavers are included in a commemorative courtyard as part of the long range plan for establishing Wakelon Centennial Plaza. The concept plan for establishing this courtyard in front of the main Wakelon building has been approved by the Zebulon Town Board. The Board has also agreed for Friends of Wakelon, Inc. to participate in collecting and displaying memorabilia in what will be the new Town Hall. Since YOU are a friend of Wakelon, we encourage you to donate any memorabilia that would capture the essence of "Dear Ole Wakelon." To do so, you may contact any of the board members listed below, or take them to Zebulon Town Clerk Lisa Markland at the the current town hall.

We need all Friends of Wakelon to join us in our campaign to raise the necessary funds to support the commemorative courtyard at the Zebulon Municipal Complex. Not only do we plan to personalize the campus, but we would also like to build a lasting memory honoring friends, relatives, classmates, educators, mentors, and citizens of our area. We are ready to accept donations for bricks and pavers as Phase One of our courtyard project, and plan to expand the courtyard and add granite benches in Phase Two. We are delighted to announce that the Zebulon Woman’s Club will be donating a fountain in the first phase. You will find concept drawings of the proposed plaza and an order blank for purchasing bricks and pavers at our web site. We will also be announcing our next meeting date for Friends of Wakelon, Inc. and would like very much for you and others to join us then in planning for the revitalization of the old Wakelon campus.

Please share this information with members of your graduating class and other interested parties by e-mail, telephone, or postal service. An order form for bricks and pavers can be down loaded from our web site. Your contributions are tax deductible. Please contact anyboard member if you have questions or need more information.

Thank you for your participation and support in making this exciting effort a reality. With very high hopes, we remain

Sincerely,

Friends of Wakelon, Inc.
Ann D. Matheny, President
